PATIALA: Devotees covered around 85km on foot from Qila Anandgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, to Thanda Burj (open tower) in Fatehgarh Sahib to commemorate the martyrdom of two younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh and his mother Mata Gujri. Payal MLA Manvinder Singh Giaspur, who was appointed as nodal officer by the Punjab government for the pilgrimage – Safar-e-Shahadat – accompanied the devotees.

Around 4 am on December 22, the devotees started their journey on foot from Qila Anandgarh Sahib and reached Thanda Burj – the open tower where two younger Sahibzadas along with their grandmother Mata Gujri were prisoned for two days – on Sunday around 7 pm.

During the pilgrimage, devotees stayed at locations that formed a part of the journey undertaken by Mata Gujri and younger Sahibzadas.

The pilgrims also crossed the Sirsa rivulet to commemorate the journey undertaken by younger Sahibzadas, when they were arrested by the then Mughal rulers and taken on foot to Fatehgarh Sahib.

“We spent the night of December 21 at Anandpur Sahib and next day at 4 am, we started our journey and reached Gurdwara Parivar Vichoda Sahib at Bharatgarh by evening. We then crossed Sirsa rivulet to reach Gurdwara Sahib Chann Baba Kumma Mashki at Chakk Dheran village and spent the night there,” Manvinder elaborated.

“Mata Gujri and two Sahibzadas had spent a night at Kumma Mashki’s cottage before moving to Gangu’s house in Sahedi, from where they were arrested by the Mughal army,” he recalled.
