Mohali: Police have arrested 12 persons, including two juveniles, for the murder of a youth near the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Phase 11 on the intervening night of Feb 14 and 15. Eighteen youths were booked in the case, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining six.Complainant Jaspreet Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, said he, along with his friends Akashdeep Singh, Rahul Kumar, Arvin Kaur and Gursev Singh, went to the temple around 12.40am. He said that a group of 15 to 20 youths were allegedly riding motorcycles recklessly near the temple premises. When Gursev Singh objected to them speeding, one of the accused reportedly pulled out a sharp-edged object and stabbed him in the chest. The blow caused fatal injuries and the attackers fled from the spot immediately.Gursev Singh was rushed to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to injuries during treatment. During investigation, police conducted multiple raids and arrested 12 accused, including two minors who were sent to a juvenile home in Hoshiarpur. The arrested accused were identified as Shyam Sundar Thakur, Tejbir, Gaurav, Rakesh Kumar, Adarsh alias Billa, Somveer, Jatinder Singh, Mohit, Dinesh and Abhiman alias Abhi.
They were produced in court and remanded in five-day police custody.Police recovered a Splendor motorcycle, a Bullet motorcycle and the sharp weapon used in the crime. Officials stated raids are on to nab the remaining accused. MSID:: 128558742 413 |
