Chandigarh: The highly anticipated governing body meeting of the PGI, originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday in New Delhi, has been postponed.
The high-level session was slated to be chaired by the union minister of health and family welfare,
JP Nadda. Official sources revealed that the last-minute deferment became necessary due to the health minister’s sudden non-availability. A revised date for the meeting has not yet been announced, leaving several crucial institutional decisions temporarily on hold.
The postponement directly impacts major academic and administrative expansions planned for the premier medical institution. Chief among the agenda items was a decision regarding the creation of several new posts for senior resident doctors to address hospital workloads.
Furthermore, the governing body was set to approve an increase in academic senior resident seats within specialized departments, specifically Hepatology and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
In addition to expanding residency opportunities, the meeting was targeted to finalize the creation of dedicated new faculty positions in critical care segments, including Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology.
