PATIALA: A middle aged man, who had lodged a complaint with the police alleging robbery of his car and Rs 10 lakh cash on Wednesday, has now turned out to be an accused in the case after the police caught him red-handed in his vehicle.
Police said that the accused, identified as Dalip Singh of Patiala city, wanted to take revenge from his old friend.
So he cooked up a robbery story.
Police said that Dalip had lodged a complaint at the Sadar Rajpura police on Wednesday alleging that two unidentified men had robbed him of his car along with Rs 10 lakh cash kept in the car. Besides, he told the police that his wallet carrying a cheque amounting to over Rs 3 crore, some cash, ATM card, PAN card and other important documents were also kept in the car.
The police said that Dalip further alleged in his complaint that the incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday near SYL on Banur –Patiala road while he was returning home from Chandigarh after getting a payment of Rs 10 lakh related to his construction business.
A case in this regard was registered under sections of robbery, common intention, curfew violation of Indian Penal Code and sections of Arms Act and Section 51 of the Disaster management Act.
The police said that sections of IPC including culpable false information with the intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person, false statement in a declaration to be taken as evidence were added against the accused after he was found guilty in the investigation.
Karanbir Singh Sandhu, SHO Sadar Rajpura police station, said, “The accused Dalip claimed that a Scorpio car followed his vehicle on Wednesday morning and one of the two accused opened fire at him but he escaped. Dalip, in his complaint, also claimed that he stopped and got out of his car following which robbers asked him about Rs 10 lakh cash.
Dalip claimed he ran away from the spot and the accused took away his car and cash. However, he was caught at a police barrier while driving his car.
