the owner of a discotheque for keeping the place open after 12 midnight.


Cops found Hop Highway disco serving guests at 1.30am. The case was registered against Amit Aggarwal on charges of disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.

District magistrate-cum-deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra on March 16 banned operation of discos, dhabas, restaurants, clubs and other recreational places after midnight in Mohali till May 10. Sapra said, “The orders had been issued in the wake of model code of conduct so that revellers be kept at bay during

elections. Discotheques will not be allowed to function beyond 12 midnight and customers will not be allowed to enter without identity cards.”

Sapra said recent cases of lawlessness had raised concerns over safety outside discotheques. Owners would have to get CCTV cameras installed at entrance and other prominent places. They would have to get police verification done of bouncers.

Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harcharan Singh Bhullar said, “Directions have been issued to officers to book persons violating the norms and check discos, pubs, roadside eateries allowing people to drink at public places.”

Last year, three to four disco owners were booked for violating the orders issued by the DM as well as selling liquor without permit.

Sapra said directions have also been issued to police to keep a strict vigil outside discos, restaurants and pubs so that timely action can discourage miscreants.
