Parking lot collapse: SIT inspects site

MOHALI: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) constituted by Mohali deputy commissioner Aashika Jain to probe the building parking lot collapse in Mohali inspected the site on Monday.
The SIT comprising of Mohali SDM, DSP, town planner and engineering wing of Gmada checked papers and requisite permissions granted by the Gmada to the building owner.
Jain said, “We want to find out the main cause of the collapse.Once the report is out, further course of action will be initiated.”
DC said, “We will set this probe as a benchmark for other builders and will go for reforms so that such incidents can be avoided in future.”
On June 14, the parking lot of a building in IT City in Sector 83 collapse, leaving a car and a dozen two-wheelers trapped. Earlier it was assessed that the cause of collapse was due to over-digging of the basement at the adjacent construction site. The police had registered an FIR against the owner of the under-construction building as well as the contractor. But the owner alleged that he is not at fault as he had all the permissions and digging was done as per the building plan and within permissible limit.
