Parents will be called if students create mess: Panjab University VC

“If the students raise valid issues, I will be the first one to address their problems. However, if they create unnecessary trouble for us or disturb peace, their parents will also be called up to keep a check on them,” the VC said. The VC has been facing many protests ever since he has joined the university. Last year, the students had staged a long protest to demand a 24x7 entry to girls’ hostel. The students have also been protesting over fee hike and recently, over “undemocratic” removal of dean, students’ welfare (DSW). The VC is also accused of favouring ABVP in student elections due to his alleged affiliations with the right wing.
The VC said he was in favour of “fruitful discussions” between student parties for the Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections, but said violence during open houses that used to happen earlier was hindering them from starting this form of dialogue again.
“The discussions that used to happen were good, and everyone has a democratic right to speak. But one should have the real issues before they start the agitation,” he said.
