CHANDIGARH: Panjab University's community radio, Jyotirgamaya, has launched its "Earn While You Learn" scheme". Fixing Rs 1,000 per month for a performer as the ceiling, it has decided to pay Rs 200 per half-an-hour's broadcasting to students. Anyone who is a PU student can avail it.
The radio recently paid Rs 1,000 each to its first group of 13 students: Ansh Grover, Aastha Chopra, Arshpreet Kaur, Megha Dhingra, Vikas Rana, Diksha Juneja, Navraj Singh, Megha Sharma, Mehak Sharma, Raman Sandhu, Geetika Jaiswal, Kirandeep Kaur and Neha Mehta.

Aastha, a first-year student of masters in journalism and mass communication, said, "It's good to be paid for your work. It not only encourages you, but also makes you more responsible."
Mehak, also a first-year student of masters in journalism and mass communication, said, "Nothing can be better a?? I am being paid for exploring and improving my communication skills." Station head Sunil Sharma said, "The initiative aims at helping students earn while they are studying and improving their broadcasting skills. Anyone who is interested in broadcasting can be a part of it. They only have to spare half an hour from their busy schedule."
Jayant Pethkar, chairperson of School of Communication Studies, said, "The financial aid will encourage students to participate in the community radio. It is a platform through which they can hone their talent."
