CHANDIGARH: Women are endowed with creativity but this talent remains latent due to the burden of responsibilities and lack of opportunities coming their way. To showcase works of 150 women artists from across the country, an exhibition has been put together by All India Women Artists' Contemporary Art Exhibition at Fine Arts museum in Panjab University.

The exhibited works were chosen out of 900 entries received for the competition and the winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. "The talent of women is often neglected and they are kept in the secondary position. Even after taking care of all the responsibilities they don't get a chance to come into the forefront, so we took an initiative by devoting this event to female artists to motivate these young women to explore their caliber," said Suraj Mukhi Sharma, who is the organizer.
Satwinder Kaur, fourth prize winner for her work "External Expression" also works on feminist issues a?? women and their social as well as political struggles. "Woman is the central character in my works. In my current work, I have tried to show the nature of a woman who smiles for the world even though having so much pain and suffering inside," she said. These women perform their creative work despite restrictions and constraints. Third prize winner Ivy Mandal, said: "Art is expression of feelings but I have to restrict my expressions due to non-acceptance from society"
