CHANDIGARH: Over 74% of the newly-elected members of the legislative assembly (MLA) in Punjab are crorepatis, down from around 80% in the previous assembly.

Out of 117 elected to the House, 87 have assets worth over Rs 1 crore, 23 over Rs 10 crore, 13 over Rs 20 crore, eight over Rs 30 crore, five over Rs 50 crore and two over Rs 100 crore. Kulwant Singh, who won the Mohali seat on AAP ticket, is the richest, having total assets — both immovable and moveable — above Rs 238 crore. Rana Gurjeet Singh of Congress has assets of more than Rs 125 crore. Aman Arora of AAP also features in the list with a net worth of over Rs 95 crore.


Barring Kulwant and Arora, all contestants in the list of 10 candidates with the highest assets have lost their elections. This list includes names of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal (Rs 202 crore), Karan Kaur (Rs 155 crore) of Congress, Randir Singh Siva (Rs 111 crore) of Lok Insaaf Party.

by a margin of 36,430, stands at Rs 24,409. Giant slayer Labh Singh Ugoke, who drubbed former CM Charanjit

Singh Channi

, has assets worth Rs 3.65 lakh.
