Online fakes: Police grill Delhi traders

CHANDIGARH: Taking forward the investigation of supply of duplicate products of reputed branded companies, police quizzed half a dozen traders in different parts of Delhi and concluded they too were selling duplicate products, but not touting them as original.
Traders from whom Gaurav Bhatia and Dixit Sahni, the two accused, procured the products, were quizzed at Darya Ganj and Karol Bagh in their presence.Both were arrested for selling fake products through their three online shopping portals on October 10.
DSP (cyber) Rashmi Sharma Yadav told TOI, "The traders claimed they were also not aware about the fact that Bhatia and Dixit were selling these items by claiming them to be genuine. Moreover, a local court in Delhi had also barred the two accused to sell any products of three reputed companies." Sources said Delhi traders claimed to sell these products under the banner of "invitation watches".
The Chandigarh police had recovered 735 fake watches of Rolex, Omega and Cartier among others and 240 pens of Mont Blanc and thousands of garments from two godowns of the accused in Industrial Area.
The accused were running three online portals, www.watchcartz.com, www.digaaz.com, www.luxecart.com, displaying original products with hefty discounts to allure customers. They made payments through ATM/credit cards online.
Judicial remand
Gaurav Bhatia and Dixit Sahni on Monday were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Police have found around Rs 7 lakh in eight accounts of two accused in different banks. DSP Rashmi Sharma Yadav said, "The two had been withdrawn huge amount from these accounts two days before a raid was conducted at their godowns because two other men had been arrested for selling duplicate products in Chandigarh."
