NSUI runner from department with most voters, SOI with least
CHANDIGARH: As per the list prepared by the university authorities, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), with 2,638 students has the highest number of voters at
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) candidate Nikhil Narmeta is a fourth-year student at UIET, giving him an advantage over other candidates.
For many years, the parties have preferred to put up candidates from UIET and laws for the PUCSC elections, as they have highest number of candidates. However, last year, PUCSC president Kanupriya won the elections despite being from the department of zoology.
Nevertheless, the parties continue to play the old tricks to win the polls. The NSUI is followed by ABVP that has put up Paras Rattan from the department of laws in order to cater to another department with a large number of voters.
The department of laws has 1,110 students.
The department of chemistry, from where the SFS has put up research scholar Priya for the polls, has 414 voters.
SOI presidential candidate Chetan Chaudhary’s department of Urdu has just 45 voters. Chetan, who passed out of UIET this year, wanted to take admission to MTech, but he was placed on waiting there.
To be eligible to contest the polls, he took admission in Urdu, where seats remained largely vacant.
