Now, petrol pumps at 11 more jails

Chandigarh: Haryana jail minister Ranjit Singh said after the successful pilot project of setting up a petrol pump adjacent to Kurukshetra jail, the government has decided to install petrol pumps at 11 more jails of the state. The state government has given in-principle approval for the same, he informed while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
He said the petrol pump at the Kurukshetra jail generated an annual income of Rs 90 lakh to Rs 1 crore. The 11 more petrol pumps would be set up by the Indian Oil Corporation, shared the minister.
The minister informed that the prisoners in Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Bhiwani jails would make the Sawamani Prasad for historical Salasar Balaji Dham Mandir. He said after Bhiwani, now new jails would be built in Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, and Rohtak. “Also, the Central Jail of Ambala will be shifted outside the city.” he added. tnn

Literacy lessons for jail inmates

A six-month special literacy program has been launched at Madurai central prison in India. The program aims to provide basic literacy and numerical skills to inmates, helping them lead a better life after release. LDA to set up fourmore pumping stns

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) plans to install four stormwater pumping stations in Gomtinagar Extension and Basant Kunj to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. Each station will have a capacity of five to 10 million litres per day and will benefit over one lakh residents. Additionally, the divisional commissioner, Roshan Jacob, expressed concerns over the slow progress of construction projects and directed officers to ensure timely completion. The commissioner also reviewed various other projects and instructed officials to expedite work related to the green corridor track.
