<div class="section0"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-size:="">CHANDIGARH: After Vijay Mallaya’s Kingfisher Air, it’s time for another liquor baron’s spirits to fly high, literally. Solan-based Mohan Meakins supremo Kapil Mohan is venturing into the skies on the wings of Indus Airways, a new low-cost carrier, with its main centres of operation in Chandigarh, Delhi and Amritsar.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">Mohan says, "Initially, we are investing Rs 100 crore in the airline, floated together with a group of NRIs.
It will take off this summer and will be initially positioned as a feeder carrier connecting smaller towns in north India. It will have a nationwide network in a phased manner." </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">Mohan’s partners are three businessmen: Krishna Gopal Beri of Beri & Beri Cold Storage & General Mills, P Lakhanpall, a London-based Indian, and Baldev Seth, a garment exporter. What they plan to offer is "low-cost, no-frills".</span><br /><span style="" font-size:="">"The airline will offer fares 30 to 40 per cent cheaper than those of full-service carriers," says Mohan. His officials say Indus will launch its services with two leased 50-seater (Brazilian) Embraer’s RJ-145 aircraft. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="">What they are waiting for is the final nod from the civil aviation ministry. All the other government approvals are already in.</span></div> </div>
