Nankana Sahib administration has declared November 8 as a local holiday in the tehsil, which is the birthplace of the founder of Sikhism. Nankana Sahib deputy commissioner Ahmer Naik, in a notification on Monday, declared November 8 as local holiday to mark the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. On May 28, 2014 , the provincial assembly of Pakistan’s Punjab unanimously passed the resolution moved by a Sikh member of provincial assembly, Ramesh Singh Arora. Arora said, “It is unfortunate that a holiday is only at local level. It should have been across Punjab.”
