CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday directed Bharat Inder Chahal, former media advisor to the former chief minister, to make a formal plea to move out of the court jurisdiction. Next hearing in the case has been fixed for November 21.Chahal faces proceedings for criminal contempt of court for having interfered in the judicial process by attempting to restrain officials from submitting a file of Punjab sports department to the high court.
The file had records on selection of some persons as DSPs in the state police. Chahal's son was a beneficiary of this selection which was quashed by the high court.
During the resumed hearing on the contempt issue, Chahal's counsel sought permission for the respondent to go out of the court jurisdiction of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as he required to visit Delhi and other places. While adjourning the hearing to November 21, the full bench comprising chief justice Vijender Jain, justices Rajive Bhalla and Surya Kant asked the counsel to submit an application for allowing Chahal to move out of the court jurisdiction as and when required.
