CHANDIGARH: A Sonipat court on Wednesday rejected anticipatory bail plea of a junior grappler booked for allegedly spiking food supplements of wrestler Narsingh Yadav at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre.
A case was registered against the accused at Rai police station. Additional sessions judge (ADJ) Sunita Grover rejected the application moved by the accused's father on Monday.
Sonipat deputy inspector general of police H S Doon s aid police parties were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
In his petition, Surender Singh has claimed that his son Jitesh Kumar deserved the concession of anticipatory bail as he was a minor and had nothing to do with the incident.
Inspector Indivar, in-charge of crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Sonipat police who is heading the probe, said the police had strongly opposed the bail as the accused was directly named in the case and was also present near SAI hostel where Narsingh's food was spiked.
Accepting the arguments by police, the court rejected the bail plea. In a related development, CIA officials probing the case are learned to have procured some more documents, including reports by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), to support their theory against the accused.
On July 29, the team had recorded statements of Narsingh's room-mates Chandan Yadav and Rohit, who had reiterated the involvement of the accused and other persons in the case. The CIA staff has also recorded statements of servicemen Pankaj Kumar and Vijay Kumar, who too had allegedly spotted Jitesh spiking the food.
