Nawaz Sharif while emphasizing Pakistan's desire to forge friendly relations with India.
He said that Sharif also underscored importance of resumption of dialogue and peaceful resolution of all issues. Sharif was accompanied by special assistant to Nawaz Sharif, Tariq Fatemi; minister of state for commerce Khuram Dastagir Khan and provincial minister for education Rana Mashood Khan and Pakistan's high commissioner in India, Salman Bashir.
Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is monitoring arrangements for Sharif's visit to the state, said that the chief minister would preside over the closing ceremony of fourth World Cup Kabaddi on December 14 and would pay obeisance at Golden Temple, and visit his ancestral village Jati Umra on December 15.
Inderjit Singh, sewadar at the gurdwara, which was earlier Sharif family residence, said: "When Sharif's family members shifted to Pakistan after the Partition, they had expressed desire that their house should not be used by anybody, so the villagers had decided to convert it into a gurdwara." Mohinder Kaur, another elderly acquaintance of Sharif's father, said, "Mian Sahib had attended my marriage. I am happy that I will be able to meet Sharif's family again."
