NIHALSINGHWALA (MOGA): Following directions from the Punjab human rights commission, the Nihalsinghwala police have registered a case against four persons for the murder of a youth of Bilaspur village of the district committed about four years ago.
It is alleged that the police had hushed up the matter due to the political connections of the accused persons.
The incident had occurred on July 21, 1999. Two of the accused had called on the residence of the victim Angrez Khan at Bilaspur village and took the latter with them under some pretext.
Angrez did not return home that day and next day his dead body was found near a mosque of the village. Though the post mortem report confirmed death due to multiple injuries with sharp edged weapons, the police closed the case terming it a suicide.
The victim''s father Sadiq Mohammad submitted a complaint before the senior superintendent of police demanding registration of murder case against Dharampal and Iqbal Singh who took the victim with them, but to no avail.
Ultimately the father approached the human rights commission Punjab seeking justice. After preliminary inquiry, the commission directed the Moga SSP to register murder case against four persons.
The police have booked Gurcharan Singh, Balbir Singh, Iqbal Singh and Dharampal under section 02 of IPC. It is reported that Angrez was murdered due to his illicit relations with a close relative of one of the accused.
