Morinda sacrilege accused in judicial custody

Patiala: A Ropar court on Saturday sent the accused in the Morinda sacrilege incident to 14-day judicial custody. Jasvir Singh Jassi was produced in the court after spending four days in police remand.Jassi had also escaped an attack inside the court premises two days ago after an advocate had pulled a gun on him. The accused lawyer was booked for attempt to murder and various sections under the Arms Act on Thursday night. He was sent to judicial custody on Friday. The police have also nominated a local resident Amritpal Singh Khatra in the case. He has been accused of providing the illegal pistol to the lawyer.The case against the lawyer was registered on the complaint of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Ropar.Notably, Jasvir Singh had allegedly committed sacrilege at Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib on Monday by pushing at Shri Guru Granth Sahib after hitting the two granthis seated near the holy scripture. The CCTV footage of the incident had gone viral on social media.The accused was overpowered by the devotees and the gurdwara staff and handed over to the police. But hours later, the entire Morinda town was shut following the protest against the alleged sacrilege.
