BATHINDA: Morinda sacrilege case accused Jasvir Singh died at Mansa civil hospital late Monday evening.

He was lodged in Mansa jail. He was shifted to Mansa civil hospital due to his discomfort, where he breathed his last.

He experienced difficulty breathing in the evening and was subsequently referred to the civil hospital, where he stayed for a period of 3-4 hours.

Jasvir Singh (36) had jumped over the railing at the sanctum sanctorum while wearing shoes at Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib at Morinda on April 24 and hit the Granthi before desecrating the holy book.

He was beaten up on the spot and police had taken him into custody. A lawyer had flung a weapon at him.

After the court had sent him to judicial custody, Jasvir was brought to Mansa jail on April 30.

Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh speaking to TOI said, “While he was feeling uneasy, he was taken to Mansa civil hospital where he breathed his last after some time in Mansa civil hospital. His body has been put in a mortuary and postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday. The police will look into the circumstances leading to his demise and further investigations are being made".

Sources said that all the issues relating to his demise were being looked into as to whether he was tortured or it was a natural death. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the sudden occurrence and whether there were individuals who sought to suppress the truth, or if these are simply rumours.
