MOHALI: The township of Mohali, on Tuesday, officially began preparations and planning for the forthcoming visit of President A P J Abdul Kalam.

MOHALI: The township of Mohali, on Tuesday, officially began preparations and planning for the forthcoming visit of President A P J Abdul Kalam.
In a high-level meeting attended by district commissioner Seema Jain, senior superintendent of police (SSP) G P S Bhullar, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Niper) director C L Kaul and other officials of the administration, including personnel from health department at Niper, various issues, including security, beautification of the town and conduct were discussed.
The President would be the chief guest of the second annual convocation of the Niper on September 29 in which 104 scholars of the institute would be awarded degrees.
Mohali Police, on the direction of the SSP, on Tuesday launched a special drive, especially in the vicinity of Niper in Sector 67, so as to keep a check on outsiders.
The police have already started the verification of all those entering the township.
In wake of Kalam''s visit, a health committee has also been constituted. It has been decided that any food item served during the President''s visit,would only be allowed after getting a nod from the committee members which includes the officials from the health department.
The beautification and cleanliness drive too has started as the President would spend some time in the institute after the convocation as he is scheduled to inaugurate a technology centre also.
