Mohali gates face further delay

For almost two years, municipal council (MC) has delayed installation of security gates in the city. As the state government is soon to upgrade the local body to a municipal corporation, it seems that the issue would be buried into the past. Sources said that the new MC would need to have a fresh perspective on the matter.

MOHALI: For almost two years, municipal council (MC) has delayed installation of security gates in the city. As the state government is soon to upgrade the local body to a municipal corporation, it seems that the issue would be buried into the past. Sources said that the new MC would need to have a fresh perspective on the matter.
Thirty nine security gates were to be installed to keep a check over rising vehicle thefts and burglaries as the present ones are non functional.

Security guards were to be deployed at the new differently designed gates.
At Sector 70, one such barrier has been put up and the older ones were to be replaced after minor changes suggested by councillors and residents.
However, the plans were disrupted following a notification from the state government on January 1.
MC councillor Kuljeet Singh Bedi said the issue would now be brought up by the upcoming municipal corporation. ‘‘All my efforts over the past two years have failed as the council is nonexistent and no officer can be allotted the task. My warnings to MC that I would move the court yielded no outcome,’’ he added.
