MOHALI: Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Tuesday kick started wild growth cleaning process in N-choe in Mohali. With the start of the cleaning process, Sidhu has promised waterlogging-free city in the upcoming monsoon season.
The Mohali municipal corporation will spend approximately Rs 13.5 lakh on the cleaning process of the N-Choe and the entire exercise os likely to take around two months, said MC commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg.

The cleaning process was started from area behind Phase IX near the bridge where three years ago water had overflown the N-Choe banks to flood the area. One JCB machine has been put into action for the purpose.
The MC commissioner said, "Keeping in mind the upcoming monsoon season, clearing of wild growth in N-Choe has started today. This process may take around two months and before the onset of the monsoon, most of the wild growth will be removed for smooth flow to the rainwater. The entire wild growth along with silt will be placed on the banks of the choe, raising plinth level of sides."
Garg said cleaning of wild growth would solve 70% of the problem of water logging in the city.
