The victim, identified as Shivkumar, lived with his aunt in New Model Town Extension for the last seven years. According to his aunt, Santosh Devi, Shivkumar left home on the evening of Jan 9 on his motorcycle, saying he was going to buy groceries. He had also left his phone at home.After family members failed to trace him, a missing person's report was registered at the Urban Estate police station.On Saturday, the police received information that a body was seen in the Satrod sub-branch canal near the Dabda road bridge. The body was spotted after the canal's water level receded, making it visible to passers-by.Upon receiving the information, ASI Sunil Kumar, along with a team from Urban Estate police station, reached the spot and found the body lying in the canal water, tied to a motorcycle with a rope. After considerable effort, both the body and the bike were pulled out of the canal.The body was sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, while the motorcycle was taken into police custody for further investigation.ASI Sunil Kumar said the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem report.
