Chandigarh: With temperature rising inexorably across the Tricity, the next few days are likely to be very hot. According to the weather department, maximum temperature in Chandigarh is likely to rise from 40 degrees Celsius on May 24 to 44 degrees Celsius by May 28.
The weather department has forecast partly cloudy to mainly clear skies over the next five days, with heat wave to severe heat wave conditions likely at several places in Chandigarh. Gusty winds and isolated thunderstorm activity may also occur during this period.
On Saturday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius, which is one degree above normal, while minimum temperature settled at 24.1 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below normal. Relative humidity levels ranged between 45% and 72%, adding to the discomfort caused by the scorching heat.
The IMD has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and wear light-coloured cotton clothes to prevent heat-related illnesses. Authorities have also urged residents to take precautions against heat stroke and dehydration as extreme summer conditions persist across the region.
