CHANDIGARH: Even as the controversy related to negligence of medicos in attending former CM Hukam Singh is yet to die down, yet another inhumane act of medico has come to light in PGIMS Rohtak.
A medico on duty in labor pains slapped and pushed an expectant mother who had expressed to walk upto to the delivery table, in labor room of Rohtak's PGIMS, the only referral hospital of Haryana during late night hour of Monday.
As a result the woman identified as Neelam (25) a resident of Jind, fell unconscious and delivered the baby on the floor of labor room. Both, the Neelam and her child died within minutes after the delivery. Desperate to keep the incident under wraps, the staff on security in labor room allegedly thrashed Neelam's mother Saroj Rani who had protested against the doctor's conduct.
Meanwhile, kins of Neelam and Saroj had started arriving the hospital and created the ruckus. POlice too reached the spot but remained mute spectator. Kins were seeking registration of case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against doctor as well as the security staff.
In a bid to hush up the incident, PGI's officiating director Dr K B Gupta has constituted a committee headed by medical suprintendent to probe the incident while placing the woman security guard under suspension with immediate effect.
"An appropriate action shall follow after we get the probe report," Gupta said.
While, Neelam's kins and relative gave a tough time to police as they refused to accept the dead body till the registration of case.
Rohtak SP Shashank Anand was inaccessible to comment. Sources informed that officials of PGI Police station had initiated the inquest proceedings and were in the process of recording the statements.
According to information, Neelam, a resident of village in Jind district was admitted to PGIMS on 14 May. She was given the artificial pains and at the time of occurence she was in acute pains.
The medico had asked her to walk up to the delivery table of the labor room. According to Neelam's mother, she had been repeatedly refusing and finally the doctor slapped her.
PGIMS is already under scanner for an inhumane act in treating former CM. Two probes have already indicted the then officiating director and a senior associate professor for the conduct.
