CHANDIGARH: To keep a check on the haphazard violation of advertisement control order 1954, enforcement wing of the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) on Wednesday removed around 100 sign boards/hoardings, displayed by shopkeepers in Sector 17 plaza, effecting section 5 of the Chandigarh advertisement control order 1954.
The enforcement wing of MC had issued 118 notices to shopkeepers after a survey on January 20 for displaying advertisement boards and hoardings violating the advertisement control order.

The action was taken against violators following a decision taken at a meeting chaired by UT advisor KK Sharma.
An official from the enforcement wing said they had notified the defaulters to remove the violating hoardings in seven days. The ones who didn't, faced action at the cost of the owner or occupier and the advertising material was confiscated.
MC served several other notices to defaulters violating the advertisement control order in other city markets on Wednesday.
