AMRITSAR: The gunman of Amritsar mayor Sunil Dutti, on Wednesday, reportedly fired in the air to disperse the shopkeepers of Majitha Road who were protesting against the anti-encroachment drive of the Amritsar municipal corporation.
The MC, in an anti-encroachment drive at Majitha Road on Wednesday, razed about 16 illegal kiosks.
The cavalcade of mayor Sunil Dutti, which was passing through Majitha Road after the kiosks were demolished, was stopped by the agitating shopkeepers.
According to eye-witnesses, one of Dutti''s gunmen fired two shots in the air to disperse the shopkeepers, who instead of fleeing from the scene got more determined and blocked the road for about six hours. It is learnt that one of the bullets hit a passer-by in the arm. However, the police did not confirm this.
Dutti told Times News Network that after receiving the news of the shopkeepers'' agitation, he had gone to visit the venue to pacify them, but they instead tried to attack him, which forced his gunman to fire in the air.
