Mohali: The Punjab State Election Commission has announced May 5, 2026, as the date for publication of final electoral rolls for the forthcoming general and by-elections to municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Punjab. The schedule has been issued under Rule 3 of the Punjab Municipal Election Rules, 1994. Dates for civic body elections are yet to be declared.
According to the Commission's notification, the revision exercise will cover elections to eight municipal corporations of Barnala, Bathinda, Abohar, Batala, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Mohali and Pathankot—along with 104 municipal councils across the state.
In Mohali district, officials have identified 624 polling booths across major urban areas, including Mohali, Banur, Zirakpur, Derabassi, Kurali, Nayagaon and Kharar. As per the notified programme, draft electoral rolls will be published on April 15, 2026. Voters will be able to file claims and objections from April 17 to April 23. To ensure wider public participation, a special campaign will be conducted on April 20 and April 21, during which election officials will be available to assist citizens in making corrections, additions or deletions in electoral rolls.
All claims and objections received during the specified period will be examined and disposed of by April 30 after due verification.
Final electoral rolls will then be published on May 5.
Officials said the revision process is being carried out using the latest delimitation data provided by the department of local government to ensure accuracy of voter lists. Citizens have been urged to check their details carefully once draft rolls are released and submit any required corrections within the stipulated time to avoid discrepancies during the elections. The State Election Commission has said that strict adherence to the announced schedule will be ensured to maintain transparency and ensure an error-free electoral process ahead of the Punjab civic polls.
