Marriage hall owners directed to arrange parking

MOHALI: Police have directed the owners of wedding halls to not occupy public space and create sufficient parking on their premises for their guests to prevent traffic congestion on roads around. A meeting on the issue was held between the senior police officers and the owners of over 50 wedding halls on Sunday at

Zirakpur

with

Manful Singh

, zonal traffic in charge inspector in which instructions were issued to prevent the problem.

The ruckus created by loud music being played during the function denies a sound sleep to the residents. But the more pressing issue is of the numerous vehicles without proper parking facilities.

Traffic in charge Manful Singh said, “If more than five vehicles are parked on the road in front of marriage halls then we will start issuing challans and also tow the vehicles.”

All the banquet halls are being advised to provide sufficient parking space and guests renting the marriage hall will have to inform the approximate number of vehicles according to which the parking would be provided.

Moreover, traffic police has also directed the owner of the marriage halls to hire additional staff as ‘Valet’ service for smooth and fast parking to avoid queues of traffic.

Police deployed in the area will also take action to prevent playing of loud music after 10 pm and anyone found flouting the order would be charged under various laws.

The Supreme Court has also issued directions that sound and loudspeakers are banned after 10 pm and anyone found violating the law would be implicated.

However, the residents complained that despite the stern laws banquet halls located on Zirakpur –Patiala highways often play loud music after permissible hours. Residents living nearby the marriage palaces have frequently called cops due to this menace.

Sources informed that the police are planning to deploy staff permanently at various marriages halls to put an end to the problems.
