Man on way to hospital stabbed for resisting robbery bid in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Two persons were injured in separate knife attacks in the city. While one incident involved an attempted robbery, the other stemmed from a dispute between two tenants living in the same house.In the first case, a biker was stabbed after he resisted a robbery attempt on the dividing road of Sectors 34 and 44 in the early hours of Tuesday. The victim, identified as Rohit Dhankar (32), a resident of Sector 42, Chandigarh, was admitted to GMCH-32 for treatment.In his complaint to Sector 34 police, Rohit said he was heading to GMCH-32 on his motorcycle around 2.30am to visit an ailing friend when three unknown persons, who were already standing on the road, stepped in front of his bike and forced him to stop. The trio allegedly tried to rob him at knifepoint. When Rohit resisted, they stabbed him and fled. Despite his injuries, he managed to escape and later informed the police.Following his statement and verification of facts, police registered a case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scrutinised. No arrests have been made so far.In another incident, Maloya police booked a man for allegedly stabbing a fellow tenant at Dadumajra colony. The injured man was admitted to GMSH-16, while police raids are underway to trace the accused.According to the complaint filed by Manoj, who stays in a rented accommodation in Maloya, the accused, Umesh, also lives in the same house. Manoj said the two had an argument on Monday night, which was later resolved. However, the following night, when Manoj was on his way to a gurdwara in the area, Umesh allegedly attacked him from behind with a sharp-edged weapon, injuring him in the back before fleeing.Manoj alerted the police by dialling 112, following which a PCR team reached the spot and shifted him to GMSH-16. Maloya police later recorded his statement at the hospital and registered a case against Umesh under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
