Hisar: A man was arrested for allegedly attempting sacrilege after he entered a gurdwara with a liquor bottle and tried to take away the Guru Granth Sahib in Mohammadpur Rohi village of Fatehabad district on Monday evening.
The accused, identified as
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of the same village, was overpowered by devotees before being handed over to the police.
According to police, the incident occurred around 7.50 pm on April 7. In a complaint, gurdwara president Ranjeet Singh alleged that the accused entered the Darbar Sahib area carrying a liquor bottle and without covering his head, and then attempted to remove the Guru Granth Sahib, hurting religious sentiments.
Two women present at the gurdwara, Avraj Kaur and Krishna, restrained the accused. They were soon joined by villagers Sunil and Sampat Singh, who helped hold him until police arrived.
Fatehabad Sadar police station SHO Prahlad said a case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
