Man claims assault by cops
SAMANA: Opposition to alleged attempts by cops to take Rs 500 from his pocket cost a rice mill clerk dearly as he was brutally beaten up in Lehragaga police station on Tuesday. The SHO of Lehragaga, however, denied the allegations leveled by the clerk, who has been admitted to Samana civil hospital.
The victim, Ram Mehar claimed that after an altercation with the watchman of his rice mill in Lehragaga on the night of January 23, he left the premises for his house but when he was waiting for a train at the railway station two cops came there and abused him without asking any question and tried to take Rs 500 from his pocket forcibly.

When he resisted the alleged robbery bid, cops attacked him and called a vehicle also from the police station and took him away.
"They took me to the police station and thrashed me mercilessly on January 23. In the morning I was thrown out of the police station and my family members first took me to Patran hospital and then I was admitted in a Samana hospital on January 25," alleged Ram while showing injuries on his body. Some other family members of Ram also alleged that they were also abused by the cops when they approached them on the morning of January 24 to know his fault.
When contacted, Lehragaga SHO Baljit Singh denied all allegations and said that Ram Mehar had an altercation with the watchman of rice mill, who might have beaten him up. "We never brought him to police station. I don't know why he has been levelling allegations against us," he added.
