LUDHIANA: Getting a train-load of people to pay Rs 10,000 each isn’t easy in the best of times and Meegoda has only four more days to achieve this feat.
A tycoon from Sri Lanka, he is the brain behind ‘Bhangra Gaddi’ that leaves Amritsar for New Delhi this Friday.
Earth Forum, one of Meegoda’s companies, has taken upon itself the task of turning a regular Shatabdi journey into a joyride—of course, at a price.
The train will take in Jalandhar and Ludhiana on its journey. While the regular Shatabdi decor will remain unchanged, the special train promises DJs and VJs, five-star meals, security, special medical aid besides a whole lot of dancing all the way to the Capital.
The fun doesn’t end with the journey.Over the extended weekend, patrons will get to stay in seven-star hotel and go sightseeing. They will also be treated to a special concert at night. The only catch is the high price—Rs 9,995—which seems to be keeping people from signing up.
Shilpa Sethi, who is working on the promotional campaign for the journey, says only about 200 people have paid up till date against the total capacity of 450-500 people in the train’s nine coaches.
The train leaves on June 28 and most people on board will be Ludhianvis. Maninder Saggar, who is handling the campaign here, says, ‘‘This is as per our expectations as the city has a large number of affluent people.’’
But station superintendent TS Rana expressed ignorance about this special train. He said the station might not have been informed as the train starts from Amritsar.
