Lawyers come to blows

hisar: differences over the dispute between lady lawyer shalini atri and sp vigilance suraj pal, on friday, took an ugly turn when a few lawyers beat up their colleague ajay bansal in the court premises and injured him. ajay bansal was among the few in the bar association who had openly opposed the decision of the association regarding a strike on the issue.on the complaint of bansal, the civil lines police station has registered a case of assault and snatching against bar association president gauri shankar atri, advocate anil jalandhar and three others. he has alleged that his gold chain was snatced by the assailants and an amount of rs 1,200 was taken out of his pocket. he has further alleged that the accused have threatened to kill him, loot and set his house afire. according to advocate ajay bansal, when he was attacked no colleague came forward to save him just because he had opposed the decision of an indefinite strike. ajay bansal went to civil hospital for a medical examination and attached the mlr with the fir. on the other hand, gauri shankar atri told this correspondent that his name was deliberately being dragged in by ajay bansal. according to him, at the time of the quarrel he was recording a statement against sp suraj pal in the court of judicial magistrate j s sidhu. shalini atri, who is gauri shankar atri's daughter, has filed a case against suraj pal alleging intimidation and threat to life.
