Landslide strikes near Kullu village as avalanche alert is issued in HP

Kullu: A major landslide struck near Pahnala village in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, triggering panic in the area. According to officials, the massive landslide struck near the village in morning hours. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or property, said an official."Usually, landslide events hardly occur in winter. I guess the recent heavy rains in the area triggered this one. It occurred near the village, but fortunately no losses were reported," the official added.
Meanwhile, Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) has issued a level-2 yellow alert for avalanches in four districts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the DGRE, there is a possibility of avalanches above 3,200 metres in Chamba, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur districts.Earlier, an avalanche struck near the North Portal of the Atal Tunnel on Feb 3.Meanwhile, Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti was the coldest in the state on Thursday, recording the lowest minimum temperature of -14.9 degrees Celsius.
