Chandigarh: The Annual Art Exhibition 2015-16 by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi was inaugurated at Punjab Kala Bhawan.
Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator, Chandigarh was the chief guest and Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator was the guest of honor at the occasion.
Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary, Jitender Yadav, Director Cultural Affairs, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson Punjab Arts Council and Bheem Malhotra, Chairman, Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi were also present at the event.
The evening began with a presentation that showcased the activities undertaken by the Akademi in past one year. A glimpse of activities like art workshops, photography exhibitions, memorial meets was given through the presentation followed by the award ceremony.
Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi invited entries in both - students and professional categories from the Tricity artists for the Annual Art Exhibition 2015. Professor Kaptan Singh Solanki gave away three awards of Rs 50,000 and two merit certificates in professional category. He also gave 5 awards of Rs 25,000 and 2 merit certificates in student category. Applauding the work of the Akademi, Governor emphasized that every form of art is unique and inspiring.
The Akademi received 243 entries in total from both the categories -49 (students) and 62 (professionals) respectively. The works selected for display by the jury out of these are 34 and 48 respectively.
