Police sources said Vipul, a Class IV student and son of Parvinder Singh, was kidnapped on Monday evening when he was returning home in Sector 13 in Rohini. After Parvinder Singh failed to find his son by late evening, he informed the police. The ransom calls were then traced to Sidharth, a resident of Old Rajinder Nagar.
Delhi police detained the accused on Tuesday evening and during sustained interrogation, Sidharth is reported to have confessed to the kidnapping. He said after Vipul died due to suffocation, he dumped the body near a village in Sonepat. The Delhi police took him there around 3 am and with the help of Haryana police, launched the search operations. The body was found after three hours from near Kumaspur village.
Police said Sidharth and Parvinder Singh, wholesale dealers of medicines, were neighbours at Bhagirath Palace. Sidharth (26), who had a lavish lifestyle, however, incurred a debt of almost Rs 70 lakh due to business losses. Seeing Parvinder as a reason of his financial hardship, he hatched a plan to kidnap his son. Police added that the boy's father had paid some money as ransom. The Delhi police has registered a case and arrested the accused.
Sources said Sidharth's wife could also be an accomplice in the crime. The body was handed over to Vipul's parents after the post-mortem was conducted at the civil hospital.
