BATHINDA: Deputy election commissioner Sandeep Saxena directed senior police and administrative officials in Bathinda, in a meeting on Wednesday, to keep a strict watch on the distribution of

drugs

and

money

among voters ahead of the 2017 assembly elections.

Punjab chief electoral officer V K Singh also attended the meeting and then held parleys with representatives of political parties. Saxena and V K Singh said the Election Commission wanted to ensure that no eligible voter was left out from the electoral list, and they had asked the district administration to ensure that youngsters aged between 18 and 19 were enrolled.

They said around 20% polling stations would be covered under web-casting. Representatives of political parties told officials that certain polling stations required monitoring by paramilitary forces. ADGP V K Bhawra said they had asked officials to call on the helpline number 1950 if they faced any law and order problems.
