Karnal gold robbery cracked: Police arrest 4 accused, recover loot worth Rs 2 crore
CHANDIGARH: With the arrest of 4 persons, including an employee of a local jeweller, the Karnal police of Haryana was able to crack the sensational robbery of gold worth over Rs 2 crore and cash from the bullion agents dealing with yellow metal in Karnal.
Notably, the incident occurred on January 3, when 2 agents of bullion firms dealing in gold came to supply raw material in Karnal. They fell prey to robbers.
Karnal SP formed joint teams under the leadership of Crime Investigation Branch-1 Incharge Inspector Sandeep Kumar and Crime Investigation Branch-3 Incharge Inspector Ajay of District Police Karnal, and they successfully solved a loot case and arrested 4 accused.
The arrested accused were identified as Prince, son of Satpal, resident of Sector-6, Karnal; and Dinesh, son of Joginder, resident of Naiyon Wala Mohalla, Karnal (both accused were apprehended from the Sector-4 area). Praveen Kumar Gurjar, son of Narsingh, resident of Rajpura, District Ambala; and Prateek, son of Tilak Raj, resident of Sonia Colony, Ambala Cantt (both accused were arrested from the District Ambala area).
A total of 1240 grams of looted gold, Rs 2 lakh cash, and 1 Activa scooter used in the crime were recovered from the accused’s possession. Notably, raw gold carries a price of Rs 1.40 lakh per 10 grams. Hence, the looted gold was worth over Rs 2 crore.
DSP Rajiv Kumar informed in a press conference that the complainant, Baban Govind Mani, lodged a complaint stating that he and his brother-in-law work in melting gold in Sarrafa Bazaar. On the night of January 3, 2026, while returning home after finishing work, 3 to 4 unknown persons attacked them near the Community Centre located in Sector-16, looted gold and cash, and fled from the spot.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections at Police Station City Karnal. Considering the seriousness of the case, police teams took swift action and arrested all 4 accused.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused Dinesh and Prince worked at a jeweller’s shop in Sarrafa Bazaar, conducted reconnaissance, and executed the loot incident along with their other accomplices. Further investigation is ongoing for a thorough probe into the case.
