HISAR: A major ruckus was reported from Fatehabad’s Ratia area on Tuesday when angry Kanwariyas pelted stones at a school bus after a dispute. According to sources, several schoolchildren were inside the bus when the incident took place.
After the stone pelting incident, bus drivers blocked a key road of the town, demanding action against the Kanwariyas. Ratia station in-charge Ranjeet Singh said that a case has been registered against two accused, Vicky and Sanju, and 30-40 unknown persons. Both Vicky and Sanju are associated with Bajrang Dal.
“Vicky is a convenor of Bajrang Dal (in-charge of four districts) and is currently the Dharma Prasar Zila Pramukh of Vishva Hindu Parishad. Sanju is currently the city convenor of Bajrang Dal,” a source said.
However, both the accused have maintained that they are innocent. Locals have claimed that the flare-up occured after a bus belonging to Akal Academy hit a Kanwar.
“The Kanwariyas were going towards Kalanwali after a long journey from Haridwar. Near Ratia, a school bus hit a Kanwar on the narrow road. The kanwariyas have claimed that the bus was attacked only after the kids were moved to a safer place,” said another local. Later, after the intervention of DSP Sanjay Bishnoi, the road was cleared and traffic restored.

In Ghaziabad, a Bolero vehicle was vandalized and overturned by Kanwariyas near Duhai Metro Station after it entered their route and allegedly hit one of them. This marks the second similar incident within three days.

In Haridwar's Manglaur, an e-rickshaw driver named Sanjay Kumar was assaulted and his vehicle vandalized by a group of 'kanwariyas' after a minor collision occurred. Despite police intervention, the kanwariyas continued their violent actions. Kumar sustained injuries and was treated at a hospital. Authorities have registered a case and are working to identify the attackers.

Seven kanwariyas from Haryana were charged with attempted murder and rioting in Saharanpur, UP, after they allegedly attacked two bikers and vandalized their bike following a collision. The incident follows another case in Muzaffarnagar, and four kanwariyas were arrested in Uttarakhand for a separate attack.
