Kangra disaster management authority bans trekking above 3,000 metres
Kangra: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Kangra district on Monday ordered a complete ban on all trekking activities above 3,000 metres.Kangra deputy commissioner and DDMA chairperson Hemraj Bairwa issued the orders along with special instructions related to trekking activities.For trekking on the Kareri, Triund, and Adi Himani Chamunda routes, obtaining prior permission from the office of the superintendent of police, Kangra, has been made mandatory. The orders further state that if the IMD Shimla issues any warning or alert, all previously granted permissions for the trekking routes (Kareri, Triund, Adi Himani Chamunda) will be considered cancelled.However, agencies associated with disaster management, such as the NDRF, SDRF, the Mountaineering Centre, McLeod Ganj, and police search and rescue teams, will be exempted from these directions.Bairwa said such orders regarding trekking are issued from time to time, keeping tourists' safety in mind. The district tourism officer was instructed to direct all stakeholders associated with the tourism business in Kangra district to inform all tourists staying at their establishments about the restrictions on trekking activities. They were also asked to make tourists aware of the penal provisions imposed by the district administration in case of violations.
