Kali Platoon flyover to open for traffic next month

AMBALA: After a gap of 10 years, the residents of Ambala would finally be able to use

Kali Platoon

flyover, which the officials have said would be thrown open for public next month.

The officials have also said that the

bridge

that connects both the northern and southern portions of Ambala, would be a New Year’s gift to the residents.

Senior section engineer, bridge department, Randhir Singh said, “The bridge would be thrown open for the residents by January 2018. Both the parts of the bridge have been assembled at the base, while the long iron bars were being set up in a bid to strengthen the base of the bridge, which would even facilitate the heavy Army vehicles to pass through easily,” he added.

“The paint job has been completed and the welding was being done to connect both ends to the base,” he added.

With the completion of the bridge, there would be less congestion near the railway station and bus stand in Ambala Cantonment.

A senior Railway official said the bridge dates back to the British time and was made about a century ago. “It was declared unsafe for use over a decade ago and the modification work started in November 2015. The railways at that time had planned to get the work completed by the end of 2016, however, due to lack of coordination between various departments and technical glitches, the work had remained in limbo,” the official said. “Apparently, the modification work on the

Platoon Railway Bridge had missed various deadlines and has caused inconvenience to people,” the official added.
