KAITHAL: The Kaithal police have arrested three farmers in separate cases for stubble burning on Saturday. In the first case, Krishna, a resident of Pabanava, was arrested by Dhand police station followed by Sagar from Shimla and Rammehar from Sinand which come under Kalayat police station.

A police spokesperson stated that the accused had burned paddy residue in violation of government orders, based on complaints from agricultural officers, and separate cases had been registered against them. The police are proceeding with further legal action against all the accused. SP Rajesh Kalia appealed to farmers not to burn crop residue, asking for their cooperation in keeping the environment clean. He added that strict action would be taken against anyone found burning crop residue.



Notably, Kaithal police have arrested more than 20 farmers for burning crop residue in this season who were granted bail on the same day by the local court. Apart from their arrest the agriculture department has imposed a hefty fine on them. On seeing the high level of air quality index, officials are taking strict action on farmers constantly.



However, khap leaders condemned this move of stern action on farmers. They alleged that the BJP government is taking action on farmers to take revenge. “We would be forced to take action against the government if this one-sided action is continued against farmers. The union and state government are not taking action on any factory or industry which produces heavy pollution. The state government should provide sufficient instrument to process crop residue as there is major chunk of small farmers who cant buy all equipments which are very costly, said Samundar Phour, a press spokesperson of majra khap
