Justice for Manisha: Protests erupt across Haryana over killing of 19-year-old teacher
JIND: Protests erupted in several districts of Haryana following the shocking murder of a 19-year-old teacher from Bhiwani district. Scores of students held processions in Jind and Dadri, demanding strict action against the accused.
Alongside students, farmers in Jhajjar district also took to the streets in support of the bereaved family, who have been protesting since mysterious death.
Later, the protestors submitted a memorandum of demands to the ADC, insisting that killers of Manisha — whose body with her throat slit was found in a field in Singhani on Aug 13 — be sentenced to death. On Monday morning, hundreds of students and youth from CRSU, colleges, ITIs, and other educational institutions gathered at Nehru Park in Jind. From there, they marched to the Mini Secretariat, raising slogans demanding justice.
During the protest, the participants carried placards demanding justice for Manisha and the harshest punishment for her killers. The protestors said that while the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) is being promoted in Haryana, the bitter truth is that daughters are not safe. Bhiwani police have not been able to trace the accused even after several days, which is eroding public trust in police protection.
The protesting youth demanded that the culprits behind Manisha's murder be traced and arrested immediately. They said these monsters should be given the death penalty, and that too in the shortest possible time. Protesters stated that even after the Delhi Nirbhaya case, govts have failed to take steps that would ensure no other daughter has to suffer a similar fate.
Apart from students, farmer unions in Jhajjar district also held a protest in support of the lady teacher.
