Jarnail murder: Bambiha gang’s member falls into police hands; pistol recovered
Chandigarh: The anti-gangster task force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police has arrested Gurveer Singh alias Guri, one of the accused involved in the alleged daylight murder of Jarnail Singh at Sathiala village in Amritsar.Punjab police chief Gaurav Yadav said the police teams had also recovered one .32 caliber pistol along with seven live cartridges from Guveer’s possession.The development comes a day after the state police established the role of Bambiha gang in the killing of Jarnail Singh and released pictures of 10 gang members involved in the killing. Jarnail was killed by four armed persons on May 24.DGP Yadav said a team of the AGTF under the supervision of ADGP Promod Ban and led by AIG, AGTF, Sandeep Goel had arrested Guri, who was a shooter of the Bambiha gang. He has a criminal history with a number of criminal cases, including that of murder, attempt to murder, snatching, and under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act, registered against him. Guri has also been declared a proclaimed offender, said Yadav.The operation was assisted by DSP Rajan Parminder and DSP Bikram Brar.As per the preliminary investigation, Guri had hatched a conspiracy along with Manpreet Singh alias Munn, presently in Portugal, and Balwinder Singh alias Doni to eliminate Jarnail, said the DGP, adding that Guri also met the shooters involved in the murder and provided them with weapons. Munn is a brother of absconding gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Ghanshampuria.The DGP said Guri had also confirmed the involvement of Gagandeep Singh alias Daddi, Jobanjeet Singh alias Billa, Joban, Gurmej Singh, Manjit Mahal and two other criminals, who are yet to be identified, in Jarnail’s murder.AIG, AGTF, Sandeep Goel said Guri was also wanted in a case of opening fire on the police party deployed at the check naka in the area of police station Sohana in Mohali. In another sensational crime, Guri had opened fire at a doctor in Nawanshahr, Goel added.A new FIR (first-information report) was registered in the case on May 30 under sections 473 (possessing counterfeit seal with intent to commit forgery) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act at police station of the Punjab state crime branch at Mohali, said the cops.
