Int’l drug cartel busted with arrest of 3; more than 10kg heroin recovered
Amritsar: The police here on Sunday claimed to have busted an international narco-trafficking cartel with the arrest of three of its operatives and recovery of 10.2 kg of heroin from their possession.The arrested operatives have been identified as 22-year-old Akashdeep Singh and 19-year-old Akash alias Mota, both residents of Cheema Kalan in Tarn Taran, and 30-year-old Sandeep Singh, a resident of Kotli Vasawa Singh in Tarn Taran, informed police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. Apart from recovering the heroin, police teams also impounded two motorcycles, which were being used to deliver the contraband.The preliminary probe revealed that Akashdeep Singh and Sandeep Singh were in touch with Pakistani smugglers from across the border for the last six years. The latter were using drones to deliver heroin consignments across the border, which was then supplied to various locations for further distribution, said Bhullar.He said the police apprehended Akashdeep Singh and Akash alias Mota from Gurdwara Bohri Sahib Road, along with 1.01 kg of heroin and a motorcycle. Based on the interrogation of the arrested accused persons, police teams also arrested their accomplice, Sandeep Singh from Chabhal Road, along with 9.2 kg of heroin and a motorcycle.The police commissioner said Sandeep was involved in supplying heroin since 2018-19 and was suspected to have smuggled over 200 kilograms of heroin so far. He further said a police remand had been obtained to interrogate the accused and uncover the entire network. A case has been registered against the accused at police station Islamabad.
