Inter school debating competition concludes

CHANDIGARH: Hansraj Parliamentary Debate Championship (HPDC) an inter school debating competition, spanning across three days concluded amidst much jubilation and fanfare at Hansraj Public School.

67 teams from schools across the Tricity participated in the championship which entered its semifinal and final rounds on Sunday. The Championship, organized in collaboration with the students of Punjab Engineering College (

PEC

), Chandigarh was divided in two categories. Junior; classes V-VII and Senior; classes VIII-XII.

Debating was done on varied topics which not only enhanced the critical thinking and oratory skills of the participants but also made them think about topics of importance relevant to the present time. The debates were based on themes such as education, sports, feminism etc.

Participants argued voraciously and put forward their arguments with vehemence.

In the junior category, both the runners up team and the winning team were from Bhavan Vidyalaya Panchkula. Saksham Singla from Bhavan Vidyalaya Panchkula was declared the best speaker (Junior) of HPDC 2017. Junior team from Hansraj comprising of Harshita, Manav and Aditya reached the semifinal.

In the senior category, teams from Strawberry Field High School won the runners up trophy. While an Individual team represented by Ojasvi, Saavy and

Udhbhav

were declared the winners of the Hansraj Parliamentary Debate Championship. Prize for the best adjudicator was given to Rahul Jayaprakash while

Ojaswi Sharma

was adjudged the best speaker (Senior) of the event.

Principal, Jaya Bhardwaj congratulated the winners as she gave away prizes to them. Applauding the efforts put in by participating teams, she said, “Hansraj keeps organizing such events on a regular basis as they enhance linguistic, logical and analytical reasoning skills among students. Such events provide an appropriate platform to prepare responsible and promising future citizens”.
