Chandigarh: The retirement of Chandigarh cadre DSP Jagbir Singh has triggered anxiety among inspector rank officers eyeing the vacant posts of deputy superintendents of police (DSPs).
Jagbir is the third DSP of Chandigarh police to have retired over a period of one month. On March 31, two DSPs B S Negi (Chandigarh cadre) and Suman Kumar (Punjab cadre) had retired.
Sources told TOI, "At present, four posts of DSPs are vacant.
The matter of concern for Chandigarh police inspectors is that the administration is considering the names of three Haryana police DSPs for bringing them on deputation. If three DSPs from Haryana arrived, UT police inspectors, who are eligible to get promotion, will have to wait longer. Three vacant posts are of retired DSP Negi, Suman Kumar, Jagbir Singh and recently transferred Sanjay Sehrawat."
The panel of three DSPs of Haryana police has been pending with UT administration for last few months. Sources said, "Though some inspector rank officers who are in line of getting promotion was to meet IG to raise their concerns about the promotion and panel of Haryana cadre DSPs, their meeting did not materialize on Thursday."
On January 4, four inspectors, Ram Gopal, Devinder Sharma, S P S Sondi and Kewal Krishan, were promoted to the post of DSPs by the administration. Sources said the local administration in an affidavit submitted in the Punjab and Haryana high court mentioned it would not bring DSPs from other cadres on deputation in the presence of eligible inspectors for promotion to the rank of DSPs.
